Youzhny an early winner at BMW Open

MUNICH, Germany, April 25 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Mikhail Youzhny piled up four service breaks in claiming a straight-set, first-round victory Monday at the BMW Open tennis tournament in Germany.

Youzhny saved six of the seven break points he faced in a 7-5, 6-2 win over Matthias Bachinger and was able to convert four of his six break-point chances. He won a healthy 68 percent of the points on serve.

No. 4-seeded Marcos Baghdatis also advanced to the second round, using 12 aces to power a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 triumph over Julien Benneteau. Baghdatis lost 16 points over 10 service games, dropping serve once.

Sixth-seeded Sergiy Stakhovsky moved on after Denis Istomin retired in the first set with Stakhovsky ahead 5-1. Stakhovsky had lost one point on serve and 10 points overall when the match was stopped.

Horacio Zeballos also claimed a win Monday, taking out Robert Kendrick 6-4, 6-4 without facing a break point.
