TORONTO, April 22 (UPI) -- John McDonald's two-run homer with one out in the 11th inning Friday gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 6-4 victory over Tampa Bay.
Although the Blue Jays rallied to tie the game on three occasions, they did not own the lead until McDonald hit just the 20th home run of his 13-year career over the wall in left off Adam Russell (1-1).
Russell came into the game to face McDonald after Juan Rivera had reached on a one-out single against Cesar Ramos. McDonald set a career high for home runs in a season last year with six. Friday's homer was his first of 2011.
Tampa Bay took a 4-2 lead with a two-run fifth, but Jose Bautista hit a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning and Bautista then scored the tying run in the eighth on a double by Edwin Encarnacion.
Marc Rzepczynski (2-0) got the win by retiring the only batter he faced in the top of the 11th. After Shawn Camp had issued a two-out walk, Rzepczynski came on to strike out Ben Zobrist.
