SAN ANTONIO, April 20 (UPI) -- Richard Jefferson's 3-pointer touched off a late-game surge Wednesday that sent the San Antonio Spurs to a 93-87 victory over Memphis.
The Spurs, boosted by the return of Manu Ginobili, evened the Western Conference quarterfinal series at 1-1. Memphis will host the third game Saturday.
San Antonio held only a three-point lead when Jefferson hit his long-range shot with 3:43 to play. That ignited a 7-2 run that gave the Spurs some cushion and they held on with the help of four free throws down the stretch by George Hill.
Ginobili, who missed the opening game of the series with a sprain of his right elbow, scored 17 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals. He made only 5-of-13 shots from the field, however, and missed all three of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Both Tim Duncan and Richard Jefferson had 16 points for the Spurs. Tony Parker added 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Zach Randolph, who helped Memphis claim the opener 101-98 and who signed a multiyear contract extension Wednesday, scored just 11 points while making 5-of-14 from the field. Sam Young paced Memphis with 17 points.
The Grizzlies hit a mere 39 percent of its shots after making 55 percent in the win Sunday.
