SAN ANTONIO, April 17 (UPI) -- Brendan Steele scratched his way to only a 1-under-par 71 Sunday but that was good enough for a one-stroke victory in the Texas Open.

His 6-foot par putt on the 18th hole allowed him to finish at 8-under 280, one shot better than Kevin Chappell (70) and Charley Hoffman (68).

Steele earned his first career PGA victory on the 17th hole as he and Chappell were tied for the lead. Steele tapped in for par but Chappell's attempt at a par putt went almost 4 feet past the hole. Chappell made the putt coming back but fell a shot behind and couldn't recover.

Brandt Snedeker carded a 1-under 71 to claim fourth place at minus-6.

Tied for fifth at 5-under 283 were Fredrik Jacobson (69), Pat Perez (71) and Cameron Tringale (73).
