MLB: Oakland 6, Detroit 2

OAKLAND, Calif., April 17 (UPI) -- Hideki Matsui doubled home the go-ahead run Saturday and the Oakland Athletics went on to best Detroit 6-2.

After spotting the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the A's scored three in the fourth to take the lead for good.

David DeJesus opened the frame with a double off Justin Verlander (1-2) and Josh Willingham chased him home with a two-bagger to tie the score. Matsui then lined a pitch down the right-field line for another double and a 2-1 lead Oakland lead.

Kurt Suzuki the completed the rally with a single to score Matsui, and Oakland hung on to take its first win in three games against the Tigers.

Dallas Braden (1-1) got the win, holding Detroit to one unearned run on three hits over five innings before exiting with stiffness in his left (throwing) shoulder.

Brad Ziegler, Craig Breslow, Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes teamed up to limit Detroit to one run the rest of the way.

Austin Jackson got the only RBI for the Tigers.
