MLB: LA Dodgers 2, St. Louis 1

LOS ANGELES, April 17 (UPI) -- Matt Kemp crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Sunday, rallying the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over St. Louis.

After a scoreless pitchers' duel through eight innings, the Cardinals had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth with a run off closer Jonathan Broxton (1-0).

But the Dodgers came right back in the bottom of the frame. Andre Ethier led off with a double off Trever Miller. Ryan Franklin (0-2) came in to pitch and Kemp greeted him with a long blast to straightway center field, allowing Los Angeles to break a five-game losing skid.

Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley shut out the Cards on two hits over eight innings, walking two and fanning 11 in a dominating performance.

Chris Carpenter started for St. Louis and responded with seven scoreless frames of his own, during which he yielded five hits with no walks while striking out six.

David Freese had a run-scoring single in the ninth for the Cardinals, whose four-game winning streak was snapped.
