HOUSTON, April 16 (UPI) -- Joe Inglett stroked a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh inning Saturday, putting Houston ahead and helping the Astros log a 5-3 victory over San Diego.
Inglett came in to hit for pitcher Mark Melancon with two out and two on base in the seventh. He responded by lining a hit to left-center field, scoring Chris Johnson to break a 3-3 tie.
Angel Sanchez added a run-scoring single later in the inning and the Astros went on to collect their second win in three games against the Padres.
Melancon (1-0) was credited with the victory after inducing Orlando Hudson to line out in the top of the seventh, ending a two-on, two-out jam in relief of starter Nelson Figueroa.
Johnson also cracked a two-run homer for Houston.
Padres starter Mat Latos (0-2) surrendered five runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Chase Headley socked a two-run double in the first inning for San Diego.
