HOUSTON, April 15 (UPI) -- Ryan Ludwick stroked a go-ahead, two-run single in the seventh inning Friday and the San Diego Padres hung on for a 4-2 victory over Houston.

Nick Hundley singled to lead off the frame and Chris Denorfia's ground-rule double put runners on second and third against J.A. Happ (1-2). Ludwick then hit a liner over shortstop to plate both runners, giving San Diego at 3-1 lead.

Ludwick later scored on Eric Patterson's pinch-hit sacrifice fly and the Padres went on to even their four-game series with the Astros at a game apiece.

Aaron Harang (3-0) controlled the Astros on three hits over six innings, allowing only one run with one walk eight strikeouts to pick up the victory.

Hunter Pence and Chris Johnson drove in runs while Happ yielded four runs over seven innings for Houston, which fell to 4-10 to start the season.
