NEW YORK, April 15 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Kings forward Jarret Stoll was slapped with a one-game suspension for a hit leveled against San Jose's Ian White, the NHL announced Friday.
Stoll took a run at White from behind during Thursday's first-round playoff game between the Pacific Division rivals, pushing the defenseman's head into the glass behind the Kings' net.
White fell to the ice following the hit and was helped to the dressing room. He didn't return to the game, which San Jose won 3-2 in overtime.
White sustained a cut to his face on the play.
Canadian broadcaster TSN reported the penalty was issued after a telephone hearing conducted by NHL Senior Vice President Colin Campbell.
The Kings said Stoll would miss Game 2 of the series, scheduled for Saturday in San Jose.
