WASHINGTON, April 12 (UPI) -- Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman went on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with an abdominal strain, the club said.

The team made the move retroactive to Sunday.

Zimmerman initially suffered the abdominal strain in spring training and aggravated the injury Saturday. In eight games this season, he is hitting .357 with one home run, five runs scored and four driven in.

Washington recalled catcher Jesus Flores from Class AAA Syracuse to take Zimmerman's roster spot.
