DETROIT, April 12 (UPI) -- Miguel Cabrera's bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday sent Detroit to a 5-4 win over Texas.
Ryan Raburn, Ramon Santiago, Victor Martinez and Brennan Boesch also drove in runs for the Tigers, who had lost their previous three games.
Detroit starter Brad Penny, who gave up seven hits and a walk but only three runs in 6 2/3 innings, did not earn a decision. Jose Valverde (1-0) got the win after giving up a lead-off single in the ninth before getting the next batter out and then inducing Julio Borbon into a game-ending double play.
Michael Young went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Rangers, who had won three in a row and nine of their first 10 games of the season.
Josh Hamilton also drove in a run with a triple, but left with a strained right shoulder after trying to score on an infield pop out in foul territory in the first inning. He apparently was hurt when he tried to avoid a tag on a head-first slide at the plate.
Texas starter C.J. Wilson gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks in 6 2/3 frames.
The loss went to Darren O'Day (0-1), who gave up the decisive hit to Cabrera.
