SAN FRANCISCO, April 12 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken thumb, the team said Tuesday.

Furcal was hurt Monday in the Dodgers' 6-1 win over the San Francisco Giants when his thumb collided with the knee of Giants' third baseman Pablo Sandoval as the Dodgers shortstop was attempting a steal.

Such injuries usually require recovery times of 4-6 weeks.

The 33-year-old is batting .192 with a .250 on base percentage so far this season.

Shortstop Ivan DeJesus was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque to fill Furcal's roster spot.
