BRUSSELS, April 11 (UPI) -- Kim Clijsters, women's world No. 2 and Australian Open champion, says she could miss the French Open because of an ankle injury suffered at a wedding party.

A note on the Belgian star's Web site says she will be unable to compete for 4-to-6 weeks.

The French Open starts May 22.

Clijsters, already trying to recover from wrist and shoulder injuries that were to keep her sidelined for a month, said she hurt her right ankle at her cousin's wedding. The Web site report gave no details of the accident.

"The diagnosis is a severe strain of both the medial and lateral ligaments of the right ankle and ... a torn ligament, a torn capsule of the ankle joint, a hematoma and torn tendon sheath," the report says.

"Kim's ankle is now completely immobilized and she cannot use her foot for a few days. Kim faces a recovery of at least 4-to-6 weeks. Since the French Open starts in literally six weeks, Kim's presence in Paris is very uncertain," it says.

Clijsters, a two-time French Open runnerup, missed the event last year because of a foot injury.

Her Australian Open victory earlier this year was her second straight Grand Slam title. She's also won the U.S. Open last fall.
