CHICAGO, April 11 (UPI) -- Kurt Suzuki's solo homer in the 10th inning capped a late comeback Monday that carried the Oakland Athletics to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Trailing 1-0 in the ninth, the A's tied the score when Sox closer Matt Thornton allowed a leadoff double to Andy LaRoche and, one out later, left fielder Juan Pierre mishandled Daric Barton's long fly, allowing LaRoche to score the tying run.
With two out in the 10th, Suzuki lined a pitch from Jesse Crain (0-1) into the left field bullpen.
Tyson Ross (1-0) earned the victory with three scoreless innings of relief and Brian Fuentes notched his fourth save with a 1-2-3 10th for Oakland.
White Sox starter Mark Buehrle hurled eight shutout innings for Chicago, yielding only two hits while walking one and striking out one in a hard-luck no-decision.
