LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) -- Former Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda and Los Angeles city officials Monday thanked donors helping a San Francisco Giants fan who was beaten at Dodger Stadium.

Lasorda, Los Angeles City Councilman Ed Reyes and other civic officials attended a fundraising event held on the parking lot at Dodger Stadium, where Bryan Stow was attacked March 31 following the season opener between the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, MLB.com reported.

"People care, that's the big thing," the Hall of Fame manager said. "People in this country, they care for other people, and that's what you are seeing here today. People who know about what happened to that young man, and they are going to show their respect for him and what has happened to him."

Police said they were seeking two men in connection with the attack on Stow, 42, who is listed in critical condition after sustaining brain injuries in the incident.

"Showing the support will, of course, help the family," Reyes said. "But it will also send a more positive message as to who we are as a great city."

An estimated $20,000 had been raised by noon Monday, the Web site said.
