SAN JOSE, Calif., April 10 (UPI) -- Simon Dawkins scored in traffic Saturday, bringing San Jose a 1-1 tie with Toronto FC.
Toronto (1-1-2) had taken a 1-0 lead when Alan Gordon scored when a crossing shot by Danleigh Borman was deflected to him and he sent the ball into an empty net from close range in the 27th minute.
Dawkins tied it up for the Earthquake (1-1-2) before halftime when he and Chris Wondolowski worked a give-and-go at the top-left edge of the area. Dawkins worked past two defenders and then scored on goalkeeper Stefan Frei with a shot to the lower right side of the goal in the 38th minute.
Wondolowski came close to putting San Jose ahead in the second half but Frei made a save on his shot from 14 yards and Ty Harden blocked a second attempt by Wondolowski from the top of the box.
