Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHARLESTON, S.C., April 9 (UPI) -- Caroline Wozniacki survived her second difficult match in as many days Friday to reach the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup.
Wozniacki, ranked No. 1 in the world, fought off Yanina Wickmayer 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in their quarterfinal duel. Wozniacki needed two tiebreaks Thursday to oust Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Jelena Jankovic advanced to a semifinal meeting with Wozniacki by coasting past Christina McHale 6-2, 6-0.
Peng Shuai will face Elena Vesnina in the other semifinal. Peng rallied to defeat Sania Mirza and Vesnina won over Julia Goerges. The scores of those two matches were identical -- 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
