Notre Dame's Floyd to stay with team

SOUTH BEND, Ind., April 9 (UPI) -- Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd will remain with the team but is still on indefinite suspension after an arrest, Coach Brian Kelly said Saturday.

Floyd, who hauled down 79 passes for 1,025 yards and 12 TDs for the Irish last season, faces a court appearance next month in connection with an alcohol-related March arrest.

He was suspended indefinitely by Kelly after the incident -- the third time the 21-year-old has been cited for an alcohol-related offense.

"Michael's suspended and that's indefinite," Kelly told reporters Saturday after a Fighting Irish spring practice session. "This is not about football ... Mike has so many things on his plate that he has to handle before he can even think about football -- academics and personally."

Floyd said in a statement to the Chicago Tribune he appreciated the opportunity to stay in school for his senior year.

"I'm grateful that I still have a chance to earn my degree and be a member of the football team," he said. "I know that I still need to meet requirements set by the university and Coach Kelly, and that I have a lot of work to do that and to prove that I've grown from the experience."
