MINNEAPOLIS, April 9 (UPI) -- Gio Gonzalez hurled six shutout innings Saturday and the Oakland Athletics went on to blank Minnesota 1-0.

Gonzalez (2-0) limited the Twins to four hits and two walks. He struck out four for the A's, who posted the close victory in the middle contest of a three-game set at Target Field.

Grant Balfour tossed 1 1/3 scoreless frames and Brian Fuentes finished up with a five-out save for Oakland. Both are ex-Twins.

The A's scored the only run of the game when Kurt Suzuki came home on Twins shortstop Alexi Casilla's sixth-inning throwing error.

Nick Blackburn (1-1) was saddled with the hard-luck loss, yielding no earned runs on five hits over six innings.
