MLB: Kansas City 3, Detroit 1

DETROIT, April 9 (UPI) -- Bruce Chen fanned seven Tigers over six shutout innings Saturday, pacing the Kansas City Royals to a 3-1 decision over Detroit.

Chen (1-0) yielded three hits and walked only one while lifting the Royals to a win in the middle contest of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

Joakim Soria notched his second save despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Billy Butler got a pair of hits and scored a run for Kansas City. Wilson Betemit, Alcides Escobar and Jeff Francoeur each logged an RBI in the victory.

Detroit's Phil Coke (0-2) pitched well in the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Ryan Raburn homered for the Tigers' only run.
