MLB: Washington 6, New York Mets 2

NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Ivan Rodriguez broke the game open with a two-run single during a three-run eighth Friday, helping the Washington Nationals to a 6-2 win over the New York Mets.

Washington won its second straight and spoiled the home opener for the Mets.

Jordan Zimmerman (1-1) gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four over 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. He helped his own cause by driving in the first two runs of the game with a second-inning single.

The loss went to R.A. Dickey (1-1), who gave up three runs on six hits over five innings. He also walked five.

The Mets have dropped three in a row after opening the campaign 3-1. New York sent 10 men to the plate with runners in scoring position and none of them got a hit.
