Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, April 7 (UPI) -- Edwin Jackson allowed four hits over eight innings Thursday in pitching the Chicago White Sox to a 5-1 victory over the winless Tampa Bay Rays.
Jackson carried a two-hitter into the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Felipe Lopez doubled and scored on Reid Brignac's ground ball single.
Sam Fuld opened the game for the Rays with a single but Jackson retired 20 of the next 21 batters -- a walk to Fuld the only flaw -- before B.J. Upton's two-out single in the seventh.
Chicago spotted Jackson a lead in the first on Alex Rios' two-run double and Rios made the score 3-0 in the third when he reached home on Paul Konerko's base hit.
The White Sox had back-to-back RBI singles from Brent Lillibridge and Juan Pierre in the eighth.
