NHL: Detroit 4, Minnesota 2

DETROIT, April 3 (UPI) -- Detroit's Jimmy Howard turned aside 27-of-29 shots Sunday and the Red Wings eased to a 4-2 win over Minnesota and the Central Division championship.

Howard stopped 11 shots in the second period as the Wild sought to erase a 2-0 deficit and improved to 36-15-5 on the season for the Red Wings, who won the Central for the ninth time in 10 years.

Darren Helm, Niklas Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom and Johan Franzen all scored for Detroit. Brian Rafalski and Henrik Zetterberg each contributed a pair of assists.

Brad Staubitz notched a second-period marker and Carson McMillan got a goal in his first NHL game for Minnesota.

Jose Theodore made 30 saves in the Wild's loss.
