COMMERCE CITY, Colo., April 3 (UPI) -- Caleb Folan scored twice Sunday and the defending MLS champion Colorado Rapids stayed perfect on the young season with a 4-1 win over D.C. United.

Folan scored in the first half to give Colorado a 1-0 lead and again in the 81st minute, upping the Rapids' advantage to 3-1.

The go-ahead goal, however, came from Jamie Smith in the 71st, only a minute after Santino Quaranta had forged a 1-1 tie for United. Smith tipped an Anthony Wallace cross past Pat Onstad following a restart to put the Rapids ahead for good.

Omar Cummings also scored in stoppage time for Colorado, which improved to 3-0-0 to start the season.

United (1-2-0), meanwhile, dropped its second straight.
