MLB: Kansas City 12, LA Angels 9 (13 inn.)

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 3 (UPI) -- Matt Treanor smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning Sunday to deliver the Kansas City Royals a 12-9 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Chris Getz reached base on an error by pitcher Jason Bulger (0-1) in the 13th and Wilson Betemit was intentionally walked. After Alcides Escobar hit into a fielder's choice, Treanor blasted a pitch into the left field stands for a Royals victory.

Melky Cabrera and Billy Butler also homered for the Royals.

Tim Collins (1-0) tossed three innings of scoreless relief, striking out five, to pick up the win for Kansas City.

Betemit's two-run double with one out in the bottom of the ninth off Angels closer Fernando Rodney sent the game into extra frames.

Bobby Abreu reached base seven times for the Angels, going 5-for-5 with a homer and a pair of walks.

Maicer Izturis, Howie Kendrick and Alberto Callaspo all went deep in the Angels' loss.
