Azarenka bounces Sharapova to win Miami

MIAMI, April 2 (UPI) -- Victoria Azarenka of Belarus dispatched Russian Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-4 Saturday, winning the $4.5 million Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

The eighth-seeded Azarenka racked up eight service breaks and took advantage of six Sharapova double faults to claim her second Miami title in three years and collect $700,000.

Azarenka cruised through the opening set and took the first four games of the second frame before Sharapova earned a break. The 16th-seeded Russian managed to make it 5-4 before Azarenka won it on her third championship point.

Azarenka improved to 6-6 in career WTA finals while Sharapova fell to 22-12 in championship matches.
