MLB: Cincinnati 7, Milwaukee 6

CINCINNATI, March 31 (UPI) -- Ramon Hernandez hit a three-run home run with two outs in the ninth Thursday, giving Cincinnati a 7-6 season-opening victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Reds entered the ninth down 6-3 but scored four times on two hits, including Hernandez's blast off reliever John Axford (0-1).

Brandon Phillips led off the Reds' ninth with a single and Joey Votto walked. Cincinnati loaded the bases when Scott Rolen reached on a fielder's choice.

Jay Bruce struck out but Jonny Gomes got a run in with a sacrifice fly before Hernandez hit a home run to right field, ending the game.

Logan Ondrusek (1-0) pitched the top of the ninth and collected the win. Cincinnati starter Edinson Volquez lasted six innings, giving up five run on seven hits, including three home runs.

Milwaukee's first two batters -- Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez -- hit home runs and the Brewers added a third run on their first out, a sacrifice fly by Casey McGehee.

Votto's first-inning sacrifice fly got the Reds on the board but Weeks's RBI double in the second made the score 4-1.

Drew Stubbs hit a home run for Cincinnati in the fourth only to the have the Brewers Ryan Braun answer in the fifth with a home run. Both teams scored in the seventh with Cincinnati's run coming on a Votto home run.
