Horse owner pulls out of Illinois track

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., March 31 (UPI) -- A prominent horse owner has decided to pull out of the Arlington Park track in the Chicago area this year, running his string of 60 horses in Florida instead.

Frank Calabrese said the horses will run at Calder Racecourse near his home in South Florida, the (Arlington Heights, Ill.) Daily Herald reported.

"I'm staying here," he told the newspaper in a telephone interview from Florida.

Arlington Park recently decided to reduce prize money by 15 percent for races with six or fewer horses running. Calabrese objected to the new policy.

"I respect Frank a lot; he's a friend and a good horseman," Arlington Park General Manager Tony Petrillo said.

"We understand that he has a home in South Florida and he says his decision to run there is final, and we respect that. We hope he does well and wins a lot of races. We're sorry to see him go."
