SAN DIEGO, March 31 (UPI) -- Former San Diego Padres outfielder Brian Giles says he didn't hit his former fiancee, who is suing him for $10 million in a palimony case.

Giles testified Wednesday that he didn't strike his girlfriend at a bar in Phoenix in 2006, contradicting witness statements given to Phoenix police, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Giles, 40, was charged with a misdemeanor after police interviewed witnesses who said Giles struck his then-girlfriend, Cheri Olvera, but the charge was later dropped in a plea deal that required Giles to take anger management classes.

Olvera, 34, testified in the palimony trial Monday that he shoved her and "it felt like a hit."

Giles testified Wednesday that when she hit the ground it was "not from me striking her."

In her suit, Olvera says Giles broke a promise to provide for her after they broke up in 2008 and she did not sign a prenuptial agreement because he abused her and would not seek counseling to remedy it.
