Fredette wins Robertson award

ST. LOUIS, March 28 (UPI) -- Brigham Young's Jimmer Fredette was named the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy Monday as the nation's top college basketball player.

Fredette, picked by members of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association from a list of 10 finalists, is the first BYU player to win the award, which has been handed out annually since1959.

Fredette, a 6-foot-2 senior from Glens Falls, N.Y., leads the nation in scoring with an average of 28.9 points per game. He helped the Cougars to a 32-5 record and the school's first appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament since 1981.
