Clijsters among 3rd-round Miami winners

MIAMI, March 27 (UPI) -- No. 2 seed Kim Clijsters needed three sets to keep up with other winners Sunday in third-round play of the Sony Ericsson Open at Miami.

Clijsters outlasted 27th-seeded Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought decision, moving on to the fourth round for the eighth time in nine career Miami appearances.

Also taking victories Sunday were third-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva, who got by No. 28 Jarmila Groth 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, and No. 5 seed Francesca Schiavone, who dispatched Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

Ninth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska needed a first-set tiebreaker to beat No. 24 seed Maria Kirilenko 7-6, (7-2), 6-3. Fifteenth-seeded Marion Bartoli dispatched Ekaterina Makarova 6-0, 6-2.
