Derek Stepan got the game's only goal early in the first period after winning a face-off in the Boston end and then tipping in a shot from the point by Mike Sauer.

The Rangers strengthened their hold on the Eastern Conference's seventh seed with the victory.

The Bruins' Tuukka Rask absorbed the hard-luck loss, making 22 saves.
