NEW YORK, March 24 (UPI) -- Erik Karlsson produced the only goal of the shootout Thursday to bring the Ottawa Senators a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

It took six shootout rounds before Karlsson could put a shot past Henrik Lundqvist.

Ottawa won for the third time in four games and ended a five-game Rangers' winning streak.

The Senators took the lead on a second-period goal by Ryan Shannon. Brandon Prust tied it 2:45 into the third.

Craig Anderson made 29 saves in regulation and overtime, then was perfect in the marathon shootout.

New York is in seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff chase, two points behind Montreal. Ottawa is in the conference cellar.
