CALIFORNIA, Pa., March 23 (UPI) -- Two black college football players in Pennsylvania are accused of a racial attack on a white man, police say.

Darnell Harding, 20, of McKeesport, Pa., a linebacker for California University of Pennsylvania is charged with ethnic intimidation and assault for allegedly hitting Michael Chambers, 23, of Westmoreland County, outside a pizzeria Thursday night, California (Pa.) Police Chief Jeff Gillen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Teammate Toni Whiteleather, 21, of Rochester, Pa., a defensive back, was charged with assault.

Chambers told police he heard Harding say he was going to hit the first white person he saw. Harding allegedly then hit him, police said.

Whiteleather allegedly joined in by kicking Chambers in the head, police said. Chambers was treated at a hospital and released.

California University's disciplinary process will address the case, spokeswoman Christine Kindl said. A court hearing was not yet scheduled.
