NHL: New York Islanders 5, Tampa Bay 2

TAMPA, Fla., March 22 (UPI) -- Rookie goalie Al Montoya stopped 36 shots Tuesday and the New York Islanders punished struggling Tampa Bay 5-2.

Montoya improved to 8-3-4 since joining the Islanders, turning aside 5-of-6 Lightning power plays.

Kyle Okposo and Matt Martin broke the game open with second-period goals for New York. Josh Bailey and Frans Nielsen also scored and Michael Grabner added an empty-netter for the Isles, who handed the playoff-bound Bolts their third straight loss.

Nate Thompson and Dominic Moore scored and Dwayne Roloson surrendered four goals on 27 shots for Tampa Bay, which is limping into the post-season with a 2-5-4 record in March.
