LOS ANGELES, March 22 (UPI) -- Anze Kopitar scored in the third round of shootout Monday, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over Calgary.
Kopitar's backhander trickled underneath the pads of Miikka Kiprusoff and Curtis Glencross missed the net on Calgary's final shot, handing the Kings a much-needed win in the tightly-packed Western Conference playoff picture.
Jarrett Stoll got the Kings' only regulation tally and Jonathan Quick turned aside 27-of-28 shots as Los Angeles notched its 88th point, good for the fifth seed in the West with nine games remaining.
Calgary's Olli Jokinen scored with less than 5 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
Kiprusoff ended with 26 saves for the Flames, who gained a point and a share of the eighth and final West playoff spot.
