ST. LOUIS, March 21 (UPI) -- Notre Dame men's basketball Coach Mike Brey has been picked as the Coach of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Brey took the Fighting Irish to the third round of the NCAA tournament this season, finishing with a record of 27-7 overall and 14-4 in the Big East. Notre Dame was eliminated by Florida State Sunday night.

The Irish started the season unranked and climbed as high as No. 4 early this month.

Brey has been Notre Dame's coach for for 11 years, compiling a 238-120 record.
