TAMPA, Fla., March 20 (UPI) -- Gary Woodland drained two key putts late in the match Sunday, logging his first career PGA Tour victory at The Transitions Championship.
With the help of his clutch putts, Woodland (4-under-par 67) finished at 15-under 269, one stroke better than Webb Simpson (2-under 69).
Woodland was behind by one stroke after the 16th hole, but notched a birdie putt on the par-3 17th to forge a tie with Simpson. Then on the closing hole he saved par by rolling in an 11-footer.
Simpson's subsequent try for a birdie ran 20 feet by the stick and Woodland emerged with the victory.
Rookie Scott Stallings notched a 1-under 70 to take third at 12-under 272 and Brandt Snedeker (70) finished fourth at minus-11.
Third-round leader Justin Rose (74) stumbled into a fifth-place tie with Marc Turnesa (66), Martin Laird (70), Roland Thatcher (70), Chris Couch (71) and Brendon de Jonge (73) at 10-under 274.
