COL BKB: Duke 87, Hampton 45

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 18 (UPI) -- Seth Curry and Miles Plumlee scored the first seven points of the game Friday, sending top-seeded Duke off to an 87-45 win over Hampton in the NCAA tournament.

Duke (31-4) moved easily into Sunday's third round, where the Blue Devils will go against West Region eighth-seeded Michigan (21-13). The Wolverines' Friday game was also a rout, as they beat Tennessee 75-45.

Curry opened the scoring for Duke Friday with a 3-point shot 45 seconds into the game. Plumlee added a layup off a feed from Nolan Smith, who also assisted on Curry's basket, and had another short shot for a 7-0 lead 3:03 into the contest.

Darion Pellum got Hampton on the board at the 17:36 mark but Smith, taking a pass from Curry, connected on a 3-pointer to make the score 10-2 and the Pirates were never closer than six the rest of the way.

Duke led by 17 at the half and pushed that advantage to 25 early in the second period and continues to pull away.

Kyrie Irving, making his first game appearance since injuring a foot in December, led the Blue Devils with 14 points while Andre Dawkins added 13 and Mason Plumlee 12. Miles Plumlee had eight points and 13 rebounds.

Hampton (24-9) got nine points each from Pellum and Charles Funches.
