COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 17 (UPI) -- Joey MacDonald made 37 saves and recorded his first shutout of the season Thursday in bringing the Detroit Red Wings a 2-0 victory over Columbus.

MacDonald, making his 11th appearance of the season, picked up just the second shutout of his 83-game career.
Both Detroit goals came in the opening period, with Drew Miller scoring 33 seconds into the contest and Valtteri Filppula adding a power-play goal with 8:37 remaining in the stanza.
