Wozniacki, Sharapova roll at Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 15 (UPI) -- Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki and former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova each recorded one-sided third-round wins Monday at the BNP Paribas Open.

Wozniacki, of Denmark, made it out of the third round of the $4.5 million hard-court event with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over 28th-seeded Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. She racked up four service breaks while holding her serve throughout the match and will next face Russian Alisa Kleybanova, who advanced by beating No. 13 Italian Flavia Pennetta 6-3, 6-4.

Wozniacki finished second at Indian Wells last year, losing to Jelena Jankovic in the finals.

Sharapova waltzed past 20th-seeded Aravane Rezai of France 6-2, 6-2 to set up a match with fellow Russian Dinara Safina, who logged a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 upset over No. 4 Samantha Stosur of Australia.

Elsewhere at Indian Wells Monday, ninth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland downed No. 24 Maria Kirilenko of Russia 6-0, 2-6, 7-5 and eighth-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus prevailed over German Urszula Radwanska 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
