NEW YORK, March 15 (UPI) -- Marian Gaborik scored a pair of goals Tuesday and the New York Rangers enhanced their playoff hopes with a 6-3 win over the New York Islanders.
Gaborik's power-play score with less than 5 minutes remaining in the second period put the Rangers up 4-2, and the Rangers went on to beat their Long Island rivals for the sixth time in eight meetings.
Erik Christensen, Ryan Callahan and Bryan McCabe each added a goal and an assist and Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 25-of-28 shots for the Rangers, who maintained a four-point cushion for an Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Matt Moulson and John Tavares notched and a goal and two helpers each for the Islanders.
Al Montoya started in net and was chased after yielding five goals on 36 shots. Nathan Lawson replaced him and turned aside 10-of-11 shots.
