DALLAS, March 13 (UPI) -- Michal Handzus scored the go-ahead goal with 20.8 seconds left in regulation Sunday, boosting the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over Dallas.
The game-winner came when the Kings' Alexei Ponikarovsky sent a backhand pass from behind the net into the crease. Handzus was waiting in traffic and tipped it past Kari Lehtonen.
Dustin Penner and Drew Doughty scored as the Kings improved to 3-0 on their current four-game road trip and vaulted over the Stars for the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoff standings.
The Kings' Jonathan Quick stopped 21 shots, earning the win despite allowing Jamie Langenbrunner to tie the score only 22 seconds before Handzus' game-winner.
Brad Richards also scored for the Stars, who came into the contest 6-0-2 in their previous eight games.
