CLEARWATER, Fla., March 10 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel, who has guided the team to four consecutive division titles, has been given a two-year contract extension.
The Phillies said Thursday that the new agreement will be in effect through the 2013 season. Financial terms weren't released but The Philadelphia Inquirer said the deal is worth $7 million to $8 million.
Manuel has managed the Phillies since 2005, building a 544-428 record. Philadelphia has won National League East titles each season 2007-10, won the NL pennant twice and the World Series in 2008.
The team last season was 97-65, which was the best record in the major leagues.
"We are pleased to have come to terms with Charlie," Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro said in a statement. "He has been an integral part of the success we've had over the past several years. There was little doubt that he was going to continue to be our skipper past his current contract and we look forward to the next three years with the hopes of continued success."
Manuel previously managed the Cleveland Indians in 2000-02, helping the Indians to a division title in 2001. His overall managerial record is 764-618.
