
ST. PAUL, Minn., March 8 (UPI) -- John Madden's third-period goal turned out to be the game winner Tuesday in the Minnesota Wild's 5-2 win over Colorado.
The Wild scored three third-period goals to win for the second time in their last three games. Minnesota is tied with Los Angeles for the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Martin Havlat, Jared Spurgeon and Kyle Brodziak each had a goal and an assist, and Andrew Brunette scored a goal for the Wild. Niklas Backstrom finished with 28 saves on 30 shots.
Kevin Porter and Paul Stastny scored for Colorado and Peter Budai made 20 saves. The Avalanche slid to their sixth consecutive loss and have dropped 16 of their last 17.
Colorado took a 2-1 lead in the second period on Stastny's power-play goal at 16:11 but the Wild came back to tie the game 2-2 on a power-play goal by Brunette at 17:46.
