LUBBOCK, Texas, March 7 (UPI) -- Texas Tech has fired men's basketball Coach Pat Knight, effective after the Big 12 Conference Tournament, the school said Monday.
Knight, who took over the Red Raiders from his father, Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight, led Texas Tech to a 13-18 overall record and 5-11 in the Big 12 this season. The Red Raiders play Missouri in a first-round game Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo.
"I felt like it was time to make a change within our men's basketball program," Texas Tech President Guy Bailey said in a statement. "I appreciate everything Pat has done for our university, not only as a head coach but also throughout his career as an assistant. I wish him success and the best moving forward."
Knight has been the team's head coach since Feb. 4, 2008. The Red Raiders are 50-60 since then and were selected for the NIT last year.
Pat Knight played for his father at Indiana from 1991-95. He joined Bob Knight's Texas Tech coaching staff in 2001 and was designated the replacement for his father in 2005.
