SUNRISE, Fla., March 6 (UPI) --
Alexander Semin's goal 48 seconds into overtime Sunday lifted the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 win over Florida and into first place in Southeast Division.
Semin fired a slap shot past Scott Clemmensen for the game-winner in the extra frame. Florida's David Booth had scored with less than 3 minutes remaining in regulation to force the overtime.
Michal Neuvirth turned aside 32-of-34 shots as the resurgent Capitals logged their fourth straight win.
Niklas Backstrom and Boyd Gordon scored in regulation for Washington, which leapfrogged idle Tampa Bay into the division top spot.
Bill Thomas also scored and Clemmensen finished with 22 saves for the Panthers.
