LOS ANGELES, March 5 (UPI) -- Daniel Sedin netted a controversial go-ahead goal in the third period Saturday and the Vancouver Canucks went on to a post a 3-1 win over Los Angeles.

With less than 9 minutes remaining, Sedin was parked to the left of the net when Christian Ehrhoff found him with a pass that he put past Jonathan Quick for a 2-1 lead.

Replays showed Sedin had shoved Kings defender Drew Doughty from behind, causing him to topple over and create a space for the game-winning shot. Doughty and Quick both argued vehemently that Sedin's goal should be nullified, but it was allowed to stand.

Jannik Hansen scored the Canucks' first goal and Alexandre Burrows added an empty-netter. Roberto Luongo stopped 21-of-22 shots for the NHL-leading Canucks, who began a five-game road trip with a win.

Dustin Penner scored his first goal since the Kings obtained him in a trade-deadline deal.

Quick made 33 saves for Los Angeles, which held the sixth spot in the tightly packed Western Conference playoff standings.
