
MONTERREY, Mexico, March 4 (UPI) -- Jelena Jankovic moved within one victory of her third straight semifinal appearance Thursday with a win over Sybille Bammer at the Monterrey Open.
Jankovic reached the semifinals in two Middle East tournaments before traveling halfway around the world to be the top seed in this event. She defeated Bammer 6-3, 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal meeting with fifth-seeded Anastasija Sevastova.
Sevastova rallied to earn her quarterfinal berth in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alize Cornet.
Another quarterfinal match was set up when Gisela Dulko and Ksenia Pervak won their second-round matches. Dulko defeated Aleksandra Wozniak 6-4, 6-1 and Pervak outlasted Lucia Hradecka 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3.
The other two quarterfinal matchups, which were determined on Wednesday, will send Olga Govortsova against Polona Hercog and Greta Arn against No. 2 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
