
MONTERREY, Mexico, March 3 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic, a semifinalist in each of her last two tournaments, advanced past the first round Wednesday at the Monterrey Open.
Jankovic breezed by Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-4, 6-1 to set up a second-round encounter with Sybille Bammer.
Jankovic lost in the semifinals in her last two events -- to Carolina Wozniacki in Dubai and to Vera Zvonareva at Qatar. She has bounced back this season after ending the 2010 campaign by losing seven of her last 11 matches.
Second-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova reached the quarterfinals Wednesday with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Melanie Oudin. Pavlyuchenkova will face Greta Arn in the quarterfinals after Arn rallied past Sara Errani 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Another quarterfinal meeting was established between Polona Hercog and Olga Govortsova.
Hercog ousted Barbora Zahlovova Strycova 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 and Govortsova was a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 winner over Alla Kudryavtseva.
In the last of the first-round matches, Gisela Dulko defeated seventh-seeded Iveta Benesova 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).
